She rounded the corner and dashed into the ally. She felt safe as she plunged into the darkness, not daring to look into the street behind her. The night consumed her and she finally leaned back against the ally wall for sheer need to breath. As she drew in a ragged breath she slid to the ground in exasperation. She hated this city, and hated the constant danger she was in. Thugs, thieves and murders prowl the night here without anyone lifting a finger. She was so caught up in her thoughts she hadn't noticed that she was indeed not safe in the pitch black alley as the sounds of hurried feet echoed down the street. They came upon her, smiling and eyeing her greedily. She looked up, clutched her purse protectively and did what she felt she could only do, cry.
